Odisha girls won a silver medal by finishing runners-up in the 1st National Schools Under-19 Rugby Tournament, which was conducted by School Games Federation of India (SGFI) at Nagpur on January 17 and 18. Bihar beat Odisha in the final to pocket the gold medal.
Earlier, Odisha girls beat Maharashtra 5-0 and Delhi 15-0, but lost to Bihar 0-15 to qualifiy for the semifinals. They next beat Chhattisgarh 5-0 to enter the final, where Bihar beat them 17-5.
But Odisha boys put up disappointing performance in the two-day event as they crashed out at the league stage, losing two matches and winning one. Odisha lost to Maharashtra 0-7 and to Delhi 17-21, but beat Jammu & Kashmir 17-5.
